 It was constructed on Bayindir stream in Ankara, between 1976 and 1984 for the purpose of providing drinking, potable and industrial water.
The body volume of the dam which is earth body filling type is 2,487.000 cubic meter and 101, 70 meter high from the stream bed. The lake volume is 1,226.000 hm3 at the regular water level; the lake area is 32,000 square kilometers at the regular water level. It provides 150 hm3 drinking and potable water per year.
The area is also used for daily trips and picnic.
